  Your Idea of a Chair
    By Frank Carter
Tom, during one of my first days as a freshman at Indian Springs, Doc
entered our classroom with his dog, Pal. He sat down and posed a question
something like "Which do you think is more real, this chair or your idea
of this chair?" Pal assumed a belly-up position in front of Doc. While
waiting for one of us to break the stunned silence, Doc removed his shoes
and stroked Pal's belly with his foot. If I still had any doubt up to
that point, I knew then for sure that I was no longer in an ordinary
school.
